Can someone explain this crap? Compressor line fittings...

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

So I was ready to put my compressor in but oh no...turns out the service valve you see at the top with the holes does not fit my lines. I believe I took it off of a 92-94 Camry and mine is 95-96 compressor.

I didn't think they were any different. Can anyone post a pic of what a 96 compressor looks like with the service valve? I even took the time out gluing an inline screen filter too

And woohoo I did the stupidest thing today. I mixed up the torque for the compressor bolts, tried tightening to 38 ft lbs when it's actually supposed to 18 ft. lbs and broke the bolt off inside the block. Luckily there was a small piece where I was able to get the pliers to it.

Just a heads up. I know using a torque wrench seems cool, 99.9999% of everybody doesn't use them on jobs like this. It will only cause you problems, just what you are describing.

I was seriously about to forgo it because for one I couldn't really get it to fit properly. I have this huge 2 foot torque wrench but seems the only thing I can use it for is the transmission pan bolt

92-94 compressor is different than 95-96. thats the problem
92-94 is R12 compressor
95-96 is R134a

You can try to remove the top section of the compressor and swap them over (they are removable) ((Where the lines hook up))

Over-torquing is a problem 99.9999% of the time

an accurate torque wrench will not allow this to happen if torqued to the proper spec.. But I agree, I never use a torque wrench when bolting stuff like a compressor up.

You're kidding me? So 92-94 used R12? That's why some guy was telling me, "your car uses R12". I looked at him like, are you nuts? He probably got it mixed up.

But yeah that top part was the service valve I pulled from a compressor at the yard. I went back today and swapped from a 1995. The difference? The points at the top are on in between those holes, not outside the holes.

Those bolts are hard as fuck to remove though. 18 lbs of torque but you can't get a good grip.

I still used my torque wrench though. Especially for the alternator bolts. How many times do you hear people's belts screaming for mercy because they didn't tighten the bolts properly?

Along with the time one of my lines connecting to the compressor broke off because the man tightened them too tight?
