oil pump

96 camry 2.2 l

After Removed oil pump pulley, noticed black rubber on the oil pump shaft. Took a screwdrivr and hammer, was able to move the gasket 360 degrees around the shaft. pieced most of it out, realizing i made a dent in the oil pump shaft. there is still black rubber in there that i can not get out.

Did the dent damge the shaft?

CAn i loosen the 12 oil pump bolts, without dropping oil pan to get to the rest of the rubber ?

this car has over 200K ,5 or 6 oil leak spots on driveway which i am trying to fix

TimingBelt + Water Pump + Oil Seal Change - 5S-FE:
Part 1 - DIY: GEN3 Timing Belt + Waterpump + Oil Seal Change - Part 1
Part 2 - DIY: GEN3 Timing Belt + Waterpump + Oil Seal Change - Part 2

Follow that guide, please. Your going to need a new oil pump rotor and shaft. Your going to need the oil pump housing as well....... Do not even attempt to not to replace the shaft. Youll piss out a quart of oil every 10 seconds.

If your left any grooves or "Dents" in the cam shaft or crank shaft, your gonna have to repair those with sleeves as well or it will leak like a sieve.

Should only have to take off the 9 bolts holding the rotor housing on. See the DIY at DIY: 5sfe Oil Pump Diagnosis that's got a good pic of the location of the bolts.

Once you've pull that, 'tho, you'll have to replace the o-ring that seals the rotor housing to the main oil pump housing. Just as well -- that's a leaker anyhow.

If you damaged the rotor shaft, you probably should replace it (given that it often is a bit scored over time anyhow, that's not a bad habit regardless).
