Stinky A/C & Good interior cleaning

Well it is time for the annual stinky A/C thread. I have used several different types of commercial cleaners / deodorizers even the ones that are injected between the blower motor and the evaporator.

My GF spilled a Bloody Mary in the back seat and floor last fall and I could not get the stain out so I removed all my seats and carpet for a good cleaning. I had my front seat hanging upside down when I washed them so the water stayed out of the slides and mechanical areas. Everything dried quickly in the 95 degree heat and looks like new. This was also cheaper than buying new carpet.

Anyway, while I had the seats and carpet removed I was looking at evaporator housing and drain hose. I thought why not flush it out as well. I have a small nozzle that I use to wash the driveway so I rammed it in the drain hose from under the car. I used duct tape and covered the seam between the two side of the case. I put towels under the housing and let the water flow. I let it fill enough to cover the evaporator and then I pulled the nozzle out of the drain tube. I could not believe the stuff that came out of the tube. I filled it up three more times until the water was coming out was clear. I now have no musty smell and the ac is cold cold cold!

I let the inside of the car dry for about an hour and put it all back together.

yeah, its a good idea to clean those drains out. Its crazy how much those clog up and stink a car up. A good idea too is to use some Coil cleaner and spray it onto the evaporator and rinse it off with a spray bottle of water. Your AC Will blow colder too, depending on if there was restriction in the fins or not
