3rd Generation Shift Solenoid or Speed Sensor? Help i'm stuck

Hey guys,
I have a 94 1MZ and my transmission is acting strange. I was at a stop light and pressing the gas and the car starting sputtering/shaking and finally stopped after I put more gas. Then it felt like it was in neutral and eventually I pulled over to the side of the road. The car then failed to shift in drive, 2, or reverse. This happens randomly and mostly from stop lights. Now the car is stuck on the side of the road. Can someone please tell me whether it is the speed sensor or shift solenoid?

Bump. Some insight would be helpful. I drove it around last night and it was shifting perfectly fine but this morning when I went to the mechanic to pick it up (they didn't fix it- not transmission specialist) it happend again and I was stranded on the side of the road.

not real familair with this trans. I would check computer for codes. there is a way to get them with out a scanner. consult a shop manual or maybe some one here knows the proceedure. Then change filter and fluid. check filter for depree. pull the computer codes first or you may change fluid and filter twice.

the same exact ones. the ecu is programmed to go into a fail safe mode which cuts off a solenoid disabling shift to second..could be a different problem if you cant get into reverse, search online for a pdf file of the shift solenoids for that transmission. theres a elimination chart of what your trans can and cant shift to when a solenoid goes out.

i sent my car to the shop and they were honest to say that the transmission was not the problem, not even the solenoids. prior to that i even tried dropping the pan to check any loose connections or shavings but was still clean and perfect fluid. i changed the ecu the next day and she works like a champ. it happened around the same mileage as you. unluckily i blew that ecu after i started my car while it was on about 3 months later so im on my 3rd ecu

google my friend

Yeah mines sounds like your issue but the transmission shop where my car is at right now said it was my clutch pack (one of the clutches for 1st gear to 2nd gear was worn so thin that it had striations on it???). Don't know if this is the issue, but if they dont fix it, should I even bother paying them?

be careful, if the shop does not even fix your problem dont even bother driving it out or paying them. a dead trans could create a lot of problems. esp if you cant engage the right gears, your motor will eventually turn bad.

i spent nothing for a diagnostic/for them to determine the problem. i simply asked, is it a transmission issue for a rebuild? or an electrical problem? if they already let them open up your trans to check your clutch pack, your fucked with a bill. ask them to check if the electrical is not invovled with the issue. lmk.

again, if you want to prevent spending benjamins, GOOGLE. why i think its not your clutch pack? cause you turned your car off and it worked fine again. is your od light flashing??? jump your diagnostic code, post the code, google it and search! btw i have a 3vzfe...
