To do this you will need:
  • Gen4 or Gen4.5 steering wheel
  • Gen4 airbag (1997-1999)

I believe the steering wheel from the CE trim is a lower grade wheel and is essentially the same as what you have now. You can't use an airbag from a Gen4.5 (2000-2001) because the connector is different. On my 1993 Camry, the steering wheel is from my ES300 (same wheel as a Gen4.5 XLE Camry), the airbag is from a 1997 Camry LE. Either way when you get the airbag, confirm it has the same connector as your old one.

make sure ya inspect the wheel before using it. the gen4's foam breaks down and wares faster then that of the gen3...especially the leather one. id recommend an ES one or one from a celica. the celica one feels the same as the gen3 but has more grips for a better feel.

buy mine and do it right..... The supermassive Knailgun Part out thread

but Rob is right, the celica would be the way to go with it, though I am not sure how the cruise controls would work with a gen4 wheel

How about a gen5 steering wheel like mine? It's not as sporty as the Celica wheels, but I like my results.

The gen3 cruise control lever swaps right into the gen5 wheel. The air bag connectors will need some modification, but it's fairly easy.

Yeah, it's pretty much bolt on except for the air bag connectors. I snagged an air bag connector from an intact air bag from the junk yard, and spliced that into the red connector on the back of the gen5 air bag. Worked perfectly. Then I swapped the cruise control lever from my original wheel to the gen5 wheel.
