3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
So I was just a little over 140 miles outside of Seattle on my way there after 3 days of driving from Denver and what could have been my car making it from Miami to Seattle in a period of 3 years- the longest possible cross-country distance.
Well, I'm on the highway going 70, the speed limit; and some nut driving a loaded 18 wheeler as if it were a honda civic hatchback is trying to push a car out the passing lane because apparently wasn't going fast enough. As I began passing the slower car and semi, the semi switches lanes FAST right BEHIND me, bumps me and I began to fish tail out of control.
From there I just slid across the highway into the median and just spinned and spinned and spinned dust flying everywhere, I hit the center divide, smashed my head against the window and shattered it. Needless to say, the car was running but totalled. But it may have still been drivable.
I just left the hospital, pretty much stranded in a small town but that will be worked out as this time, unlike when I was t-boned totalled last year; the driver didn't drive off LOL.
Scariest day of my life. Really thought I was going to die (ok, less dramatic...thought I'd have a few broken bones) and was glad I wasn't hit again as there was quite a few cars on the highway. At the same time I am relieved, but equally sad as I feel a good part of me was in that car...Besides the pain, I could not believe that I'd just gotten the A/C redone AND just FIXED the car earlier this year from the last idiot that hit me.
230,XXX miles I always had the feeling the car would never die unless it was in an accident. But either way, it would die doing what it loved best; traveling the country.
Where'd you get pasted? Yakima? Hate driving through there anywhere near rush hour -- worse than a lot of big cities. At least there ain't much to hit if you go off the road there....
but i must ask. did NOBODY see that the truck hit you and got the trailer plate like a good citizen would ?? i respect most truck drivers but when it comes to shit like this, i get really pissed off. no one called it in as a witness ?

Oh yes, lots of people seen it and there was 3 witnesses who left me their info...2 of the witnesses were the ones in the passing lane that almost got rear ended right before the semi decided to change lanes too soon behind me and run me off the road.
I have the tags and insurance for it and everything so I have a feeling it's gong to turn out better than last time I got hit where I didn't get anything.

Yeah hopefully. Either way, I still liked working on my car and hope to get something that I can at least do the standard on. It felt so good not to be dependent on a mechanic for everything....and to have been enough times where a 96 drove like a brand new car.
I got so good working on this that I even thought about posting an craigslist ad to help fix minor things on Camry's like glass, fluid flushes. All thanks to you guys
