Help with THIS hose...(intake tube?)....or should I go CAI ??????

Ok, so I'm stealing Dodgertown's pic from the nearby "this hose" thread. (Thanks)

Anyway, I don't know when I'd have caught it but while having my oil changed local mech found a crack in my intake kinda' where the large arrow is. (where it makes the accordion bendy move toward the TB) It's on the inside so it's not stretched open, but definitely something I want to seal up.

Since all Gen 4's are pretty old these days I'm wondering if I should bother yanking one off the local junkyard or maybe just do a tape job? Or maybe go full CAI?? (I'm not really a fan, just would be....ehh....different, I guess)

Or maybe I should just buy an oem piece to get soft, supple, new rubber/plastic???

Tape works for a while, but never forever. Brand new would be the way to go... junkyard ones are just as old and brittle.

you can get an aftermarket one from ebay, much cheaper than OEM, but then it's not a perfect fit and rubber might be of a different kind slightly. should work though...

I'd get a new OEM one though ... online dealers give good discounts and Toyota factory parts are almost indestructible

I remember on one of my junk cars in past ... '90 Ford Probe junk I think it was, I had similar crack on intake hose and a friend glued it for me with some liquid rubber thing (he had some leftovers from a different job), he put a lot of it, so the whole hose became stiff, but it held vacuum very good

If it`s cracked, tape is just a "get home or mechanic" fix.It too becomes brittle from heat in no time, particularly in that area.I suggest you go to a speed shop first, before original. You`d be surprised what they have there and even though it may or may not have the accordion design,it doesn`t matter coz the accordion design only acts to muffle intake noise....Dunno about you but I prefer some intake noise from mine

Ya, I know tape will fail. I'll slap some on for now as I'll probably pick up one of those ebay units made by Dorman. (For $40 vs $75 it'll be worth a try).

That part, adalex, appears to be correct. Though they appear to be about $75 anywhere I can find. The Dorman is a 696-706 and a little cheaper (between $35 and $50 depending on seller).

Or maybe you can let me know where you got the OE item for $50??

I had a crack at my air intake hose too, and I bought the part from the ebay.

Sorry for diggin up this old thread & it may not matter.....BUT.....

I was going to do the IAC valve & TB cleaning today & remembered I still need to change the intake snorkel.

I looked on the top of it & it says:

17881-74731

Anybody know the difference between that one & the one mentioned earlier in this thread:

17881-03121

???????????

They're both available at toyotapartszone & both show for my '98 2.2L, (1997-1999) but why the 2 part #'s then???

TIA
