strange box hanging from intake pipe?

Just got my sister's 2000 Camry CE 4cly back to my place to do various repairs. While poking around in the engine compartment I found a little vacuum valve or sensor or something that looked like it was supposed to be bolted onto something by was just sitting there. I then determined that it was supposed to be bolted to this box near by it, which is also not connected correctly because of a broken mounting bracket. The box has a little pin thing on top that goes through a hole coming off the bottom of the intake pipe, so it hangs from under there. It also used to have a bracket securing it off to the side near the airbox, but that's broken, and then near the top the valve used to bolt on. But, I can't figure out what this box does. It seems to have only one thing connecting to it which is a tube that feeds into the intake pipe after the like from the valve cover and before the throttle body. What is this thing? Is it supposed to have other connections that I'm missing?

the VSV for EVAP is screwed on top side of resonator box (connected with intake hose).

the resonator box also is hooked to a bolt sticking out (downwards) from the bottom part (on the side) of air cleaner box (intake hose is clamped on it's top cover).

I hope you know what I am saying, trying to find a pic describing it...

Ok, the resonator box. That would explain why there are no other hoses coming off of it since it should just be there to change the shape of the intake flow so it doesn't make an annoying noise. I guess I'll just mend the bracket part, bolt the VSV back in place, and be done with it. Thanks!

yup, the resonator has only 1 hose connection with intake hose, it's there only for altering the sound/flow.

resonator box on my 5s-fe has a plastic hole in corner closest to the air cleaner box, that is where the air cleaner box's bolt (I call it a hook) is supposed to go through. there is no nut on the other side, it just hangs on it.

and yeah the VSV plate is just screwed to bracket on top of resonator box.

can't find the pics sorry, let me know if you need them badly, can take some tomorrow after work.

Nope, no pics necessary. I'm fairly certain we are describing the same thing. Thanks again!
