2001 Toyota Camry Springs/Strut Replacement???

Hey guys,

After 11 years and 175K miles later my struts/shocks is officially busted! I was wondering, besides stock/oem replacement, have you guys gone aftermarket? I was thinking to Tein/Tokico combo or maybe go K-Sport Coilover Kit.

What would you guys recommend?

Also, this camry is a 4cyl, if I wanted to convert the rear brakes from drums to rotor/calipers, is it hard? Has anyone done this?

Thanks,

Mark

Oh I forgot to mention, I am also buying a set of new wheels...19X8.5, 5-114.3mm, +30 Offset or 19x8, 5x114, +46 offset...which one of these two will fit the camry without any spacers, etc?????

Rear brake conversion is possible, but you pretty much need to find a donor car and pull out calipers, rotors, e-brake cable (yep, the whole cable going down to the e-brake pulley inside), and probably something else I'm forgetting. A bit of a hassle, but there are a few guides on this in the DIY section HERE (also has a bunch of write-ups on suspension)

As for the wheels, you're going a bit too wide with the 8.5" rims. From what I've seen, Gen4 Camry can accommodate up to 7" rims (215mm width). Anything wider than that, and you run the risk of needing offsets and/or other issues.

For suspension, you just gotta figure out what you want to do with the car: keep the stock ride and feel, drop the car, or firm up the suspension. There are struts and springs for either case.

Hope this helps.

Monroe Quick Struts all around are cheapest and fastest to do.

check amazon, ebay, rockauto and partsgeek for pricing.

refer to Monroe e-catalog for part numbers.
http://www.monroe.com/catalog/e-Catalog

ABove is for cheapest and low price OE style replacement.

if you are into performance lowering then a known well working set is combo of Tokico (Hitachi) Blue HP struts with Tein springs, mounts and rubber as you like (OEM preferred).
