Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I am getting a little confused with all these oem toyota part numbers. Was trying to get a new transmission mount and here is what I found at www.toyodiy.com using my VIN:
Which one is for my car? What does the letter (L) and (J) mean?
1999 Toyota Camry LE, 4-cyl, Automatic Transmission
Japan Build

Take a look here, the different part numbers show a production date range so keep that in mind when you're ordering. The J and L, don't know. Country of origin?

www.toyodiy.com/parts uses same nomenclature in recognizing Japan vs North American parts (J vs L). if you don't believe us, just call up the dealer and check which parts (J or L) fit your car by VIN number and you will know for sure.
in some instances you can still have Japan parts on car made in USA or Canada ... so get it double checked. since my Solaras both have been made in Canada plant (and sold in US market) I always go with "L" marked parts in diagrams, but even then sometimes happen that physical parts can be still Japan made (and fitting vehicle marked as US)
J, generally refers to cars that have "Made in Japan" printed on door jamb sticker, those are different!
L, refers to cars that have "Made in USA" (TMMK) or "Made in Canada" (TMC) printed on the door jamb sticker.
