Custom CAI, l4

Yes, I googled... I am tired of finding CAI/SRIs for other models or year of cars. I admit defeat when it comes to finding this info on Google...

I was looking into getting a CAI or SRI but found that few people carry them, and those that do are charging an extortionate price. I looked at injen, spectre, pretty much everyone. Some places still have them listed on their website but then you get to checkout and they are 'temporarily out of stock'. They don't even look like they would go on right. Some only go into the throttle body while not having connections for the hose and the other 'thing' (apparently, nobody can tell me what it is) http://www.jcwhitney.com/secret-weapon-performance-cold-air-intake-systems/p2009986.jcwx?skuId=427897&filterid=c2035d2168y199 8j1 . I also looked on the stock intake and there is this opening that has a 'L' shaped enclosed tube sticking out of it. From what I can tell, it serves no purpose.

I looked online to find out how to make a custom intake and found this page: http://www.teamdelsol.com/technical/...e/default.html however, as it states at the bottom, OBD-II requires an extra hole. How would I go about making a pipe for all this without having to pin weld, as I suck at it much worse than I can solder.

The bottom picture shows a resonator, just to quiet the intake down a little. The top picture, the pipe leads to another resonating chamber but also to a VSV for the charcoal canister I believe.

So those resonators, could I completely leave that out of my custom CAI/SRI? Just make a port for the hose going to the manifold/head, the air temp sensor (which is on the filter box) and the pipe for the throttle body just like all these after market intakes? I would also need to keep the charcoal tube there too? Man, looks like I am going to need to learn to make pretty welds fast then.

Honestly, on my CAI there's just MAF and the 1 tube running to the valve cover. Everything else should be able to be left alone.

So, then do I cap off the larger resonator (1st pic) or leave it open and get a tiny filter for it?

You may find this thread useful, as I found out most of the info to do my SRI here.

You should just pull that resonator out. If you intend on using the stock tube you would need to cap the bottom of it.

EDIT: What year is your camry?

It's a 98 2.2 l4 5spd.
The resonator, sorry not sure if that is exactly what it is called but was told it was, is that the one you are talking about in the first picture with the four arrows pointing to it? If so, from that part, there are two hoses, one leading into/behind the firewall and one leading to the top of the throttle body. I have heard about removing something in the intake, but if I did, that some of the engines toxins would be released within the bay. I do not what this to happen.

I went to autozone and found:

thing is. It does not list my auto year or model, the only thing I saw was corolla 97 on it that even might come close to 98 camry?

Thats what I've got on mine. Fit perfectly. I have a 93 though, which means I don't have a MAF. Also, I just took out all the resonator piping / canisters. It sounds really nice, but doesn't really do anything for power at all.

Yeah what you have the 4 arrows pointing to is the resonator. I think what you have the arrow pointed at in the second picture is part of the MAF like CBZED101 had mentioned. I can't say for sure as I have a 96 and it didn't have all the extra hoses.

Alright, I decided to trust everything and jump right into it, here's a YouTube of it.

http://youtu.be/Vi9pJJqQlEw?hd=1

Sounds nice at 2.2k RPMs if I stomp on the gas, 3k RPMs if I accelerate normally (highway). I disconnected the battery, for some odd reason...
So I didn't listen to my sound system by force... erm... choice. The idle was at 2.2k until the car 'learned' to do so again. It's back at 700-800RPM idle. No real boost in performance, I was skeptical so I automatically thought it decreased performance, but hey... placebo effect I suppose.
