4th Generation HELP! 1997 Toyota Camry LE 2.2L 2164 4cyl 5SFE: Need Diameter of FRONT SWAY BAR

Greetings All,

I admit that I am confused. All over the internet the sway bar bushings are listed 1997-2001 inclusive with various size sway bars, mostly 19,18mm.

My Rear Sway Bar Bushings were replaced using Energy Suspension Bushings the non-greaseable kind
(with no new brackets and washers included, because they don't have them for this diameter).

I got the information from calling them directly at the Energy Suspension Company in California.

(Auto Zone, though listed by Energy Suspension as a carrier, had no idea how to pull up their information and wouldn't even call Energy Suspension to find out. I had to go home and call them myself.)

Energy Suspension has the REAR DIAMETER listed as 16mm and does not supply the brackets for the part -according to their sales parts person.
FYI Part# 8.5120 5/8" 16mm non-greaseable set.

My diagnostics mechanic said that I should replace the Front Sway Bar Bushings as I had already done the rear Bushing and replace the Front Stabilizer Bar Links, as I have noise coming from the Front Passenger Side. When he inspected the Front End Links, he said that this was the problem and not the mounts or anything else.

My question is: Are the diameters of both front and rear sway bars the same? If so, do I need to go with the Energy Suspension brand or can I use any bushings like MOOG etc... I have no repair manual.

The bushings are the only thing holding me up from getting this first phase of maintenance completed.
I need to get the TUNE-UP and the Front End completed before traveling for the family wedding.

Your help would be much appreciated.
Blessings,
Mrs_Lop

Easiest way would be to measure it with some calipers. You can use an adjustable wrench to git a ballpark figure by closing the jaws on the bar, sliding the wrench off...then measure the gap between the jaws. It may not be super accurate but you'll be really close.

Another option would be to remove one of the stock bushings and the size should be imprinted on the rubber bushing itself.

Here's where they were located on my 2WD T-100 extended cab OEM bushings...

go check which bushing replacement you get from Moog catalog and it should tell you the diameter for your car/year/model.

http://fme-cat.com/PassengerCarLightTruck.aspx

My both Solaras use (IIRC) 17mm in front. The rear is different between the i4 vs V6 and in my case is 15mm and 16mm respectively.
Those numbers are based on VEHIX catalog for Soalras and since Camry LE uses same parts then it must be same.

EDIT:
http://fme-cat.com/Application.aspx?...cat=Suspension

K90025, same as I used.
http://fme-cat.com/PartDetailWindow....%20G%205SFE&t=

some other website of reseller was showing exact diameter for that K90025 bushing kit and it said 17mm if I am not wrong.

check this thread too, some links were posted:

4th Generation Mechanic did the measurement today

Greetings All,

So, when I went to discuss the work scheduled for tomorrow with my mechanic, I explained about how no one connected with Toyota Corp Headquarter knew the front sway bar diameter information, except to say " We rely on our dealerships to supply that kind of information."

Anyway, the Front Sway Bar Diameter as measured by my mechanic was: 17mm

The honor really goes to: fenixus

Since he was the one who originally said in this thread that it was probably the same.

Many thanks to you fenixus!

Blessings,
Mrs_Lop

PS: We should start a sticky for stock specifications on the Gen4
