Manual 5 speed difference if any

This will probably be a quick thread. I just was wondering if for the 3rd gen that 5 speed on the 4 banger and the V6 are the same transmission. From what I have read it seems they are, but I thought maybe the V6 might have something better for performance or such.

They are completely different. Yes both bolt up. But they are 2 different transmissions. Even the 2 available for the 3vz and the 1mz are different.

What are the differences between them? Would there be a reason to choose one over another for performance?

Thats the info I found. Curry's conversion thread to a 5speed is what made me question this. Since the ECU wouldn't plug in I was thinking maybe it depends on the engine?

Four cylinder donor car for all parts on my conversion. The only.differences between the two cars were: wagon vs sedan; auto vs manual; power Windows, etc vs manual doors. The underdash wiring is totally different on a manual car though. I'll have to repin the auto harness to the manual plugs to make the ECU work. Daily driven for four months so far with the "wrong" ECU and no issues though.

Depends on what you want - For cars making gobs of power go with the E153 - it can take it for the most part. If you have a highway cruiser, then go for the E53 with the lower numerical final drive.

The final drives will interchange between all three transmissions - so you could theoretically put the 3.625 FD from the E53 into the E153 for the best of both worlds.

I have the S54 in my 1996 Camry and at 78 MPH the car cruises at 3000 RPM. If I changed to the E153 and used the FD out of the E53 I could drive the same speed but only be turning over 2300 RPM with not much changed with the other gears as far as performance. That would mean a significant increase in gas mileage - but I don't know of anyone who's done this (yet)

Oh man, I wish someone did it cause cruising at 70 mph at 3500rpm kills my gas like nothing. =| I wish my gears were higher so that I can cruise at lower rpm.

^ agreed. Only complaint I've had about this car. Or maybe a 6th gear would be beneficial.

Damn, with my Civic I am only at little bit above 3000rpm at that same speed.

Okay, now the next question is... how does the E351 trans fits in with these other trans?

The E351 is the Scion tB manual transmission. I have a Quaife LSD sold for the E351 but I think it may be a direct fit into the E153 (Camry v6 5 speed) just fine. Anyone have a clue?
