I seen a Gen5 camry with a "soft top" in Chicago before. It's one of those "dealer special edition." Not my style.

Oooh I see. What other 'dealer specific' options were there? I remember Kentucky or some state had a blue interior once.

I like the soft top...looks nice with that color.

By soft top, you mean convertible?... no, never was one.

That looks like a vinyl covering on the roof and door pillars; with some thin padding underneath it. Very popular thing back in the 70's and 80's. Horrible idea. The sun and weather eats 'em alive. After 5 years or so, depending, the vinyl cracks and tears and looks like hell. And then it starts holding moisture against the sheet metal and rusts like mad.

Lol yah, I was thinking like a convertible type thing <_<.

His at least looked new, didn't have any tears or cracks in it from what I can tell. Maybe he put it on himself recently.

That must've come up from Florida. I've never seen so many "special edition" cars as I have from down there. Mostly seniors driving them.

Yeah I saw one on the highway around here once. Dealer item. Just like my old Thunderbird "Bostonian edition", was a dealer add-on (soft top and gold emblems) and I have never seen another t-bird with the same modification.

Solaras (99-01) are pretty much the counterpart of gen4 & gen4.5 camry (V6 model until 2003 inclusively) and were made in either coupe (hard top) or convertible (soft top) versions for both 5s-fe and 1mz-fe engines.

later models since 2004+ are corresponding to gen5 camry (with exception of 4cyl 2.4L since 2002 inclusive).

What a blast from the past! A vinel top on a Camry. Did it have any "fake fur" on the dash, an 8-track tape deck or a CB radio? To be fair, they didn't look to bad on some of the luxery oriented "boats", back in the 70's. But theres just something that looks a little "off" about it to me, on a Camry, and they really did rust up roofs and pillars. Well... somebody loves her, and thats what really matters.
