1mzfe heat soak? solution?

So I brought the lolara to the track tonight for open racing, and apparently heat soak got to it. It was 85 and sunny, but I've brought similar cars to the same track on hotter days with no real decline in performance. After my third run it was so hot under the hood that the air box clamps were too hot to unclamp. The car is all stock except for the TRD supercharger, presumably running at 4 pounds. It doesn't seem like you can get a CAI for the V6 first gen, would a short ram actually help with this?

There is a company online that sells hood louvers to custom install on any car. May be worth looking in to. I'm planning a set for my rally wagon build up...

are you running an intercooler? if so, an intercooler water sprayer may help.

No, I'm not aware of any IC setups for these cars with a blower. I was advised to look into meth injection by a very helpful member, and I think I'll try that. Although hood spacers or a louver or two would probably help.

Run it without a hood. In Texas, it's been 100+ for over a month it no rain. My Camry like most has the cast-iron 2.2 and after a good drive, it give off unbelievable amount of heat in the garage compare to the other vehicle at home. I just open the hood to cool it off at night in the garage and at rest stop during a long trip.

I'd ceramic coat your exhaust manifold and downpipe then wrap it with Thermo-Tec header wrap for starters. You'll cut down at the least 30F.

jp got a good start, you can fab a cia from the sri

you can do a water to air ic, but you need to cut the charger and weld in the cooler (been done)

you can also shim up the back of the hood and remove the weather stripping on the back for more air flow

trd (i think some figured out the non trd one was) lower temp thermostat

racing radiator like me

No I do not know the oil temp. I do know that the coolant was staying at normal operating temp. Maybe i'll just buy a SRI and take out the headlight housing when at the track. I need to beat the kids running Honda civics with spoon engines, t66 turbos and a motec system exhaust. You know I can't lose again.

yes, our superchargers tend to heat soak quite easily.

and I'm presuming that you are referring to drag since you mentioned "runs".

open your hood and put a bag of ice on the blower between runs....seriously lol.

I've found that with a very similar setup to yours (my old soalra), the motor would be pretty heat soaked after about 3 or 4 laps on the circuit (about 2 miles long each lap).

Believe it or not, YES!
My brother and I tested it on his S13 after he got his SR20DET swapped into it.
The difference is very noticeable. While 30F isn't a big number in terms of how hot your parts get, that's still quite a good bit to cut out. Its also good because your intake will draw in cooler air as from before.
I must also add, the cheap stuff rips and breaks easy, the more expensive stuff lasts much longer.

OP, I would probably try run a A2W intercooler set up.
What you could do is mount your water tank around where the battery is located and reroute your intake, then put the intercooler on the coolant reservoir side.
Depending on how thick your intercooler is, you might be stuck having to run a single core radiator for it.
But as far as cooling goes, I would probably use water with water wetter. If you plan on really running is for lengthy periods, or not, you could substitute some dry ice in there.
Just remember, if you don't cut out temperatures in your engine bay, you can still potentially heat soak if you don't have the I/C or tank properly placed. Make sure the I/C gets at least some air flow.
Also, because money is a huge issue on this board, expect to pay about $1000 on a decent A2W kit. I spent $1100-1150 on the one I put together for my MR2.

Pros and cons of an intercooler setup? ie. is it worth it compared to the much cheaper meth injection setup?
