5SFE Head Questions

I have had a 2001 Camry with a 5SFE dropped in my lap with a blown head gasket and probable warped head. I have an extra parts engine out of a 95 Camry. My question is, does the 95 head work on the 01 engine? Physically on both engines they appear the same, but I am unsure about the porting, combustion chambers, valves, etc. Any help from someone who has actual experience here is appreciated. If you are unsure please do not attempt an answer as this is not for one of my frankenstein projects, but a friend's car that needs done this weekend. Also, if anyone has a manual with the specs of the 01 head handy feel free to post those. I have the info on the 95, but was unable to find a manual for an 01.

If you are not 100% sure, remove the blown head .. grab the old 5sfe head gasket from the 95, overlay the gasket onto the block in the car. Check to make sure all the ports match up. I'm pretty sure it will match, but u never know!

I know it will physically bolt up. I'm mostly concerned about how it will run. Did they do something different with the head castings on the cars with distributorless ignition? Are the valves the same size? What about the cams? Are they compatible?

Like I said I'm not 100% sure if it will work..

You need to grab the old head gasket from the head in question and lay it on top of the block and check the ports to see if they line up. The cams size, valve size, etc should be the same.
