98 steering rack?? Anybody had one replaced?? Need advice ASAP!!!

OK, so I'd posted a couple months ago about my '98 wanting to wander on its own & specifically w/ a problem turning agressively to the left once you turn past a certain point. I've checked all end links, tie rod ends, etc. I can't see any looseness anywhere. I also had my local oil-change mechanic at Big O locally, do the once around & they just keep flushing the steering fluid over & over again but I already knew this wasn't the prob.

Soooooo..........after multiple hits from Toyota about not getting the steering nut recall done, i dropped it off to them today. I also asked them to check this out. I have a feeling from what the guy told me that it's going to need a steering rack. Anybody had that done before?? Would it be a good idea to let Toyota do it to get a Toyota OEM rack?? Or should i let a good local mechanic do it & get whatever for less??

TIA for any info. I expect a call from Toyota shortly.

OK, so they did the steering wheel nut re-torque per the recall but that's it. Tech didn't notice anything else unusual in the steering. Two problems..........

#1.) If they test drove the thing at all & couldn't feel the problem with the steering, then they're idiots & shouldn't so much as push paper acrossed a desk.

#2.) The "gold team member" didn't even get the description of the problem right on the notes. I talked to him in specifics as if he knew what tie rods, or end links were. How are there so many unemployed people & so stupid a pack of people in the positions that are taken??

Sorry gang......I just have a low tolerance for the state of mechanics these days. I'm no pro but c'mon people. I need to find a GOOD and REAL mechanic that actually knows when things are right & wrong.
