EGR valve and VSV - TOYOTA vs Aftermarket

Ok well I got the new car ( 97 camry I4 ) a few days , and its already threw a code out P0401 . SO i figure bare minimum i will need an egr port cleaning if not replacing the EGR or egr vsv. Out of you all who have had the same code and successfully fixing it after replacing either one of those parts, did you only use parts from toyota, or did you use an aftermarket part like Dorman or Duralast, or whatever Pepboys brand is?

Are these two parts pretty much the same everywhere? or is Toyota replacement part far superior?

PS anybody with a gen 4 have a picture of the trunk layout. I know in my 95 i had plastic cups and compartments on the sides for stuff, but when i got this 97 i had two bare metal wells on the side that were full of junk and a little rust lol.

I would go with OEM parts only, around engine, really. VSV and modulator are like $50 each online and new valve (improved design over factory one) is around $140 from online dealers.

for vacuum tubing you can go with black silicone 3mm ID hoses (metric) sold on ebay in Honk Kong (zenaracing seller), they are excellent. only difference is that they of course do not have the heat insulation for close engine routing like OEM ones do ... but OEM ones are terribly expensive, used OEM only for VSV hosing (dual hose with lots of insulation and sort of bracket).

gen4 trunk, has empty spaces on sides, they are only covered by removable woodden boards, covered on top with more insulation and trunk carpet. you are probably missing those boards, as they tend to break apart or rot if trunk gets wet or something heavy keeps banging around the trunk for a long time.

passenger side compartment contains the factory scissor jack, driver side one is empty.

Almost, without exception Toyota parts are far better than aftermarket. I have had endless problems with after market parts ( everything from engine to suspension- all brands) and never one with Toyota parts. The only exception is if you can get parts from the OEM ( they will be the same parts Toyota uses and usually much cheaper).
