A COMPLETE list of normal and occasional maintenance items
Hello all,
I am looking for a COMPLETE list of normal and occasional maintenance items and how often they should be performed for my 2001 Toyota Camry LE 4 cylinder.
I feel lost without it and I want my Camry to be always be in tip-top shape. I always worry that I am not doing something right or that I may forget to change something that I had no idea was due for a change.
Oil changes, water pump, fluid changes, brakes, belts, tires, fuel system, cooling system, air conditioning, air filter, intake and exhaust systems, throttle body, etc etc.....you name it, everything that requires attention.
Honda has an 'ownerlink' site that once you register your car, you get all kinds of info on it including the service/maintenance schedule at each mileage interval. Does Toyota have something like that?
i know Mazda has a program like that. when i bought my 05 RX-8 and drove it off the dealer's lot, i was magically placed on their mailing list. now i get emails from Mazda telling my the my car should be over 60K miles and that i will need certain types of service and so on.. i only have 38k miles on my RX-8 so their emails are a bit pessimistic..
If you want a COMPLETE list of maintenance items you will need to get a copy of what Toyota calls the Scheduled Maintenance Guide. It comes with the car, and is a supplement to the Owners Manual. This is for my car, and yours might be a bit different, but probably everything is the same.
You can also go to www.toyota.com/owners and download all the manuals and maintenance stuff directly from them. If you set up an account you can look at your service records for your car based on the VIN. That feature is great when looking for a car to buy. Most ads have the VIN posted, so you just enter the VIN and you get a detailed service record of the car that you want to buy. A nice supplement to Carfax.
Toyotas has the same thing, it used to be called Toyota Owners Online or something similar, but now it is also accessible through http://www.toyota.com/owners/
you can register your cars over there and download user manuals (not factory service manuals though), check dealer service history, maintenance items, etc. etc.

4SALE: connectors for Camry Headlight Wiring Harness and ECU
When I purchased my used 1997 Toyota Camry in May of this year, the seller supplied me with all the manuals.
I had no service records to go by. It was a family owned vehicle passed down from one member to another, but in obviously well kept maintained condition, until the last driver died. It had not been used very much over the last several years.
Mine included a Toyota Touch Mini Manual with five foldover approximately 5" X 9" pages.
The last two pages included Maintenance Schedule.
It has fewer pages on heavier weight paper, than the Owners Manual. In my opinion, it is much simpler to use.
This is a very handy manual as it had all mileage intervals from 5,000 or 4 months -60,000 or 48 months mile maintenance.
Because of the age of my Camry and the car being infrequently used, I just assumed that nothing had been done for several years and back-tracked to the 60,000 miles or 48 months schedule.
I don't know if this was included with your 2001 originally. I would call the Toyota Dealer and see if they can find out or order one for you. Just from my own limited experience it would be worth the price to me to buy one -if I didn't have one already. Check ebay motors and put in a search. They sometimes have things that you can't find easily elsewhere.
The following is an excerpt from the Mini Manual and does not include all maintenance from 5,000 miles to 55,000 miles.
For what it's worth this was what was listed for 1997:
Maintenance Schedule:
...The maintenance schedule provides you with the flexibility to follow either the 5,000 mile or 7,500 mile oil change intervals, depending on your circumstances.
*Use 5,000 mile oil change intervals to help ensure proper engine lubrication under most driving conditions.
*Use 7,500 mile oil change intervals if you primarily operate your non-turbo charged Toyota under light , non-commercial duty for distances greater than 5 miles in temperate climates (above freezing and below 90 degrees F).
60,000 Miles or 48 Months: Replace engine oil and oil filter;engine air filter;spark plugs;engine coolant.
Inspect valves (audible inspection; adjust if necessary);
drive belts; fuel lines and connections, fuel tank vapor vent system hoses, fuel tank band, fuel tank cap gasket;
exhaust pipes and mountings;
brake linings, discs, drums, lines and hoses;
steering linkage; rack and pinion assembly for leakage; ball joints and dust covers; shaft boots, (re-torque flange bolts); automatic transmission and differential oil;
Vehicles in: California, Maine and New York, inspect
Charcoal Canister.
I would strongly recommend trying to locate the
Mini Manual, if it was originally included with your year and model. It would have year specific information and recommendations for maintenance. I rely on mine more than the owners manual. It has tabbed categories for quick reference.
I hope that this helps.
Blessings,
