New Toyota Calipers VS Reman vs Aftermarket

Does anyone have any recommendations on using genuine new Toyota calipers vs remanufactured ones (or aftermarket ones)? My 97 Camry caliper has frozen.

Reman from just about any parts store. Did the slide pin gets stuck or the piston?

If its the slide pin just put the pin on a bench vice and turn the whole bracket. Then clean up both bores and replace grommets on both pins.

Dont buy a preloaded caliper with a bracket. Its pointless in all honesty. The caliper alone should be about 40$ and come with new slide pins and boots.

Dont even call the stealership.....

dealers will charge you around $300-400 for ONE complete caliper (not sure if it comes with bracket or not). That's a real killer steal IMHO...

go with aftermarket caliper, either with or without the bracket depending on condition of parts you have over there.

just word of advice, paint the new caliper with Hi-Temp Caliper paint (e.g. black, silver, red, up to you) before installing on the car as most of remanuf units come sand blasted to bare metal and not protected with anything. otherwise it will pick up ugly rust in as little as 1-2 weeks.

If there is no rust then I'd rebuild them using a rebuild kit (OEM, Dorman or Beck Arnley). But I'm sure northern states like NJ has some nasty road salt corrosion problems. change out the anchor pin boots and lube the pins with Permatex Ceramic Extreme brake grease. Keep petro solvents away from rubber parts. Use alcohol if needed.

I think cost cutting lead rebuilders to pass on anti-corrosion coatings. It used to be that rebuilt calipers come with a greenish coating. No longer. But A1 Cardone or their parts store equivalents should work.
