Gen 4.5 Temp/Compass Rearview Mirror on Gen 4

Hello,
I was in a Gen 4.5 Camry the other day, and noticed that it had a mirror that tells the temperature on it. This happens to be the same mirror that GM used on pretty much everything from the Mid 90's to the Mid 00's, so it should be quite easy to source as a part.
Anyways, is there any possible way of wiring it up in my Gen 4? Maybe splice into the dome lamp or something?
Has anyone tried this?
Thanks!

You can get one, but you'll need to find a mounting place for the temperature probe that doesn't give false readings. I only have an auto-dimming with compass installed in mine. It was an OEM part and included installation instructions: routing the wires along the headliner, down the A-pillar, and to a plug in the lower panel where you would t-tap onto an ACC wire. You probably don't want to tap into dome lamp wire since it may not be able to provide enough power to the mirror and may be popping its fuse very often.

Can you give me any more info on that plug in the lower panel I should tap onto? That sounds like the best idea as it's working for you.
Thanks!

It's been a while since I installed it, so I took some pictures of how to go about getting to the harness.

Remove the scuff cover by pulling up.

Remove the kick panel by pulling out the plug first.

Remove this cover by pulling out.

Lower dash panel are held down two screws and clips. Remove these screws first and then pull the panel out. Make sure you don't lose any of the panel clips.

Once the panel is out, remove the metal plate held in by four 10-mm bolts.

This is the harness, tap onto the black/red wire.

Lastly, use the existing ground point in the kick panel area.

It seems like a lot of work, but it's pretty quick.

O.o I've been thinking about trying to do that for a while, I don't suppose you have a p/n for the mirror do u? and would it bolt up to the stock mounting spot?

The part number was: PT732-33000 when I ordered it, but it may have changed/discontinued since then because the car is 13 years old. Yes, it would clip onto the stock mount.

My friend has the same one that was taken off his ES300 before he sold the car. If you're interested, I can ask him how much he wants for it since he has no use for it anymore.
