3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
i had to take the old license plate off because the previous owner had back taxes on it and the screws were rusted to the clips and kinda broke the plastic around them and still on the screws on the plate. you see in kentucky the license plate usually stays with the car for life so it was probably on the car since 94. i am having trouble fingering out how to mount the plate now. anyone have this trouble and know what can be done? really don't want to screw into the bumper now if i don;t have too.
sorry if this has been asked already. i didn't see it.

You can pick up those square plastic license clips (with screws) at most any auto parts store. They are cheap... if there is anything left to mount them in.

i don't think so. there is no place for those things to go. the originals were metal clips that went over the plastic and the screws went into it to hold it.

BTDT...I had the same thing happen on my 96 Camry, when the Daughter took it over.
I redneck engineered a new pieces of plastic to put the tag screws in!....if I was home I'd get pics for ya, but I'm not and won't be till Monday.
I used an old plastic clamp, and Automotive Goop to glue it on, then once dry, I lined up the tag, drilled a small hole in the New plastic piece, and screwed them down. It's still holding the tag in place, and its been years.
Good Luck!

lots of trouble to do it, but if you take off the bumper you can slide the clips on from behind and theyll stay in place. I think thats how they are originally.
yeah the trouble is it is impossible to reach in the back because the license plat blocks the holes and there is stuff in the way under.

i was thinking about that too. the big holes on the side are covered by the plate so have to see how that would work.
also it is just in the back window of the car right now with tinted windows that the clear cote is flaking so kinda blurry. rub hand on the window and shiny flakes come off.

No, No.....all you do is slide two U-nuts on from the front....a real easy fix.
oh ok didn't know what that was. yeah that is what toyota used and what is rusted on the bolt on the other license plate. where can you buy them because can't find at auto parts store. also where can you get the clips that hold the bezel on around the radio and ac? i took it off and the clips came off in the dash and can't get them.
