99 Camry - dash lights are gone after installing new stereo system

Hi,

I have a 99 camry, I replaced factory installed radio with new sony stereo system and on the same day dash lights are not glowing. I checked fuses, under steering, one 7.5 AMPS fuse blown, i changed it, but when turn the engine on, the fuse immediately blows. Looks like something wrong in the stereo installation, but the mechanic claims it's not related to the stereo installation. I never had this problem before, it happened on the same day of stereo replacement. Please help. Thanks!

Jason

Did you replace the stereo or did a shop? If a shop did they messed up the wiring. Probably used the lighting wire for a power of memory wire. Keep on them until they do it right. if you did go over the wiring again. I believe you do not use the stock lighting wire for anything on an after market stereo.

If the fuse keeps blowing then you have a short, probably along the accessory wire. Either take the stereo out yourself (which is extremely easy) and find the short, or take it back to the shop and tell them to fix their mess.

Thank you for the suggestions. A private mechanic installed the sterio system, it's Sony Explod model. I am planning to take out the sterio myself and see whether the fuse stays.

Something is grounding out your illumination lead. I've seen it several times. For some reason installers confuse the illumination wire with something else. Must be a color code thing.

Hi, Do you know what the color code will be? I also read somewhere there is a dim-wire, which should not be connected and just tape (without using)? Thanks.

Hi All,

Problem solved!! Thanks for all your suggestions!

The problem was there is one orange wire with white strip, which should not be used as per the toyota wiring diagram. The mechanic connected this wire also, I myself found this problem using the circuit diagram available at: http://www.installdr.com/InstallDocs...PDF/869037.asp

Regards,
Jason
