trunk lid alignment

How do I adjust the trunk lid on a 2001 Camry?

It's not leaking but it looks like crap since it doesn't line up right, it sticks out the back of the car a little.

I removed the liner just to find that it's the bolts holding it to the hinge are already pushed as forward as they can be. I don't see any other point I can adjust.

I tried searching but couldn't find anything, any help would be appreciated, thank you.

Sometimes people put things in the trunk underneath the lid hinge, slam the lid closed, and a hinge gets bent when it comes down on the obstruction.

So it may just need a little bending back, which you can do by using wood for leverage, putting it directly underneath or above the hinge depending on how you need to tweak the alignment. Sounds ghetto, but that's how I was able to take care of one of my cars.

Another alternative to bent hinges is going to a pick and pull and grabbing one or two from a nicely aligned trunk that's still in tact.

Technically, it is referred to as the Luggage Compartment Door.
There is a section on removal/installation/alignment ... see the factory service manual Body section ... p. BO-27
