is it necessary to re-gap from .44 to .43 ?

Ok now that im with the 97 4 cylinder I am feeling i can change out my own plugs. Now i want to put in the platinum plugs near end of year, but want to go with the v or g power ngks just to see if it gives me a lil boost seeing i bought car used, and dont even know condition of current plugs (plus fact this is my first 4 cylinder so im not sure what to expect ride wise)

I read in the haynes manual that the correct gap is .43 but ngk says the yplugs are pre gapped at .44 I remember getting ngk g power a few years back for my V6 and dude just popped them in without gapping or anything, I ASKED him and he said they didnt need it. And i never had any problems.

So the question is should i worry about regapping from .44 to .43 or its not enough of a difference to worry about?

it's .043 and .044 and the answer is No, but I would check them before "popping" them in

if the plugs you planning to get are pre-gapped for your model of car, namely part number ends with 11 (that's 1.1mm gap as per factory specs), then no, you do not re-gap it. that's how it's supposed to be.

same about Denso plugs that you can get from Advance Auto real cheap if you use online coupon (e.g. P20 for 20% off or A123 for $10 off $30) and local pickup option.

if you would like to keep your new plugs for a long time (e.g. next 60-100k miles) then consider getting OE style plugs, namely Denso Double Platinum (PK20TR11) or NGK Laser Platinum (BKR6EKPB-11). other plugs will NOT serve you that long, usually half that time no matter if they are more expensive (relatively to cheap single electrode) single electrode or less expensive double electrode models (when comparing to double platinum OE style). I wouldn't trust other plugs for more than 30k miles honestly.

in fact I am about to check on (and replace if necessary) the OE Denso plugs after only 30k miles, though the car has been running for 26k miles with AFR issues, possibly a little too rich and that may have fouled the plugs.

I wouldn't re-gap but I always check. One never knows if rough handling in shipping may have bumped the electrode. Probably pretty rare but it doesn't hurt to check.
