4th Generation oil in spark plug tube - 2000 LE 2.2 5sfe

Have a 2.2 camry 2000.
Got error code P300 and 302.
300-misfire
302-misfire in tube #2.
Before the code show up, the engine would shake when I put it in gear.

So I bought NGK wires and plugs.
I took out tube #1 which is closest to the passenger.
It was drenched in oil.

Do I have a leak in the seal?
Does a leak affect all the tubes?

You may need to replace the sparkplug tube gasket things, when you change the valve cover gasket, there are 4 gaskets that go under the valve cover over the spark plug tubes, Hopefully thats you're ONLY problem,

How tight was the spark plug in the tube?
I noticed my car had this problem the last time I changed the spark plugs, and it was not very tight.

I have the same issue. I have replaced all the seals, the spark plugs, and basically every part except the tube itself, and my spark plugs still get covered in oil.

You don't ever have a puff of blue smoke at cold startup by chance? If so, I am told it could be the valve seals.

IIRC, the spark plug tube screws into the head, and over time, that can loosen and leak oil into the spark plug area. The valve cover needs to come off, unscrew the tubes, apply sealant (don't remember what's recommended there), and reassemble.

Edit: Here's a DIY thread for it; starts at post #18.

Thanks. I put in new plugs/ignition. I will find out very soon if it is a leak internally.

Unless you accidentally poured oil down the tube it is leaking. The plug tubes should be dry at all times

Another free alternative to try before removing and resealing and reinstalling the spark plug tubes and the rubber seals under the valve cover gasket is to retighten the 4 large 30MM nuts under the plug wires to 17 ft lbs in 3 even passes, alternating between wells 1, then 3, then 2, and finally 4. Clean the oil out from the bottom of the wells and then check down there again in 500 to 1000 miles. I use a paper towel wrapped around a screwdriver for the cleaning. Many times this simple procedure cures the problem. This procedure was told to me by a former Toyota tech.
