4th Generation Clock Lens Scratched Bad--Options?

The clock in my 97 works great, but one of the previous 4 owners must have used a Brillo pad to clean the plastic lens on it. It's so scuffed/scratched that it makes it very, very hard to read, even at night.

I know I could replace it new or pull-a-part, but is there any product out there that I can just use to remove the worst scratches? Or does the lens plastic remove easily and I could replace just that piece? The clock is fine otherwise, and it seems like it would be a lot of work to replace the whole thing.

The easist way is to remove the clock and buff the lens on a polishing wheel with the right compound. The most probable consumer way is with a plastic scratch remover compound. Look on the shelf at the auto parts store for the brand you like. If its REALLY scratched up you can use extra fine grit papers to resurface before polishing just like you do for plastic headlight lenses.

I've used
this Meguiar's Plastx this Meguiar's Plastx
stuff to buff light scratches out of stuff. Most auto parts stores carry it. I got it in a headlight lens polishing kit; worked great on my Cam's headlights.
