1993 Camry Wagon 97,000 Miles Immaculate Condition. "How Much Should I Pay?"
Hello,
I have always been a fan of wagons. I came across a 1993 V6 LE with 97,000 miles. The son of the original owners has the car and has driven for about 15,000 miles. His employer has just given him a company car so he is selling it.
The car has all records and everything is perfect condition. The car has been garage kept and has a complete maintenance history from the dealer. The car looks new and drives new. The tires have about 8,000 miles on them.
Just curious how much I should pay for this car.
He is asking $4,250.00 but I think this is too much for a car of this vintage.
I know KBB's price is off because this car is rare in this condition and is worth more than 3k. But 4250 is too much.
Wondering how much you Toyota fans think this fine wagon is worth.

Answering a what price question can get tedious.........I would say the asking price is crazy.........I bought the Vibe in my sig 2 years ago with 105k on it......it was mint. no one ever sat in the backseat. it was driven by a company up and down the highway..thus the high mileage ........I bought it off of CL for $5,200.........You can buy a new car for $13k.......offer him 2k maybe 2.5k ........I assume the care has been in Florida its entire life

I don't know. 3750 still seems a bit high, but I see 4 door Camrys for 93-96 go for 3k all the time on CL (in good condition and loaded....). But for 3500 and up you could get a much new/faster car.

Seems like $3500 is the logical price for both of you to agree on.... I'd pay that
It all depends on what it is worth to you. Don't get stuck on the price too much. If you really want a wagon and it will serve you a special purpose, then think about what $500 is worth over say, 5 years of ownership of this car. Think more in terms of what the alternatives are in that price range and make a decision. Good luck!
Oh, and keep in mind that wagons were only a small fraction of the Camrys sold - they are getting harder to come by in the condition that you mention.
FYI - I paid $2500 last year for my '93 V6 with 130K miles and some minor issues.
I totaled the car in my profile last May.
It was a 93 Camry LE w/ 110mi one owner
moonroof bla bla bla
They gave me $4200.00 for the car.. and i fixed it just fine for much less.
It's a sellers market these days.. People know the kind of cars they have and will wait for the right price because they will get it.
That's just the way it is these days.. you are not going to get people to reduce their prices much on these cars. You want a GOOD car, you'll have to pay a nice price.
here is the car after the body shop.
Everytime my body shop guys sees the car he kids me and says.. you know you could probably get 4500 for this now.. I go but it's a salvage.. he said, don't matter... it's a great car.. Car's not for sale.. Before I decided to fix it i did look at whats out there and it's all other peoples junk and problems these days..
Pricing is a really tough question.. I know because I've put a ton of sweat equity into my '93 LE V-6. Top mechanical, rust free, new transmission, leather interior, power everything, 2000, JBL/Toyota sound/speakers, ungraded braking system, HID/Depo headlight conversion,... and whats it worth to my insurance company? Book value for the year/model in exc. condition, about $3000. Cost to replace with a car in same condition with same options? Probably $10-20K.
These cars (wagon or sedan, V-6 models) stand out today in terms of refinement and driving quality, far beyond their years of production, and it is really tough to find a vehicle in the book pricing range that can even come close.
If you can pull off $3500 or $3750 for it, and you really want it, I would say that you are still coming away with a great deal for the content/quality of the car. There are some brands that hold value, and panache, far beyond their actual value as good reliable drivers. Fortunately for many of us, Camry's don't... yet.

now you know why no one wanted to reply to a Question about price.
I agree "insurance" is a good investment. over my 30 years of car ownership I have collected on a few cars through insurance Co's. ........I always got more money from them then they were worth on the open market. I personally would not use insurnce claims to value a car......If my Vibe(Matrix) was stolen today I would probably get more for it than I paid on Craigslist 2 years and 50k miles ago...IMHO
