4th Generation >150K mile suspension life?

How long will the suspension parts (control arm, sway bushings, etc) hold up in your experience, except for struts?

It all depends on a buncha factors. Toyota stuff is pretty tough and many components wont go bad for a long time.

Im at 135k or so and the only suspension component ive touched are the rear sway bushings. Ive needed struts for a while though (past 20k miles) but Ive been letting it slide....

But ive seen cars with under 100k need c-arms and ball joints and a whole slew of stuff. The way you drive and road condition is critical. Hit a couple big potholes and curbs and your gonna need work.

At 319k miles, my Camry's needed:
All 4 struts (just once)
Front lower spring insulators
Rear strut upper mounts (in hindsight, they were probably OK)
Left rear suspension control arm #2, the rear-most one
Front lower control arm rubber bushings.
All 4 sway bar bushings

At 248k, my Avalon:
Struts, all 4. The spring insulators on the rears were also replaced at the same time. The struts leaked oil on 'em and they were crumbling into pieces. As far as I know, that's all.

But, as carsrus said, it's highly, highly dependent on driving habits and your typical road conditions.

How did you know you need sway bushings? Noise? handling?

On the Avy, I could see that strut oil had leaked down onto them, and they were deteriorated to the point they were crumbling. On the Camry, I saw they were worn thru where the springs were resting on them, and had squeezed out and were dangling. They're pretty cheap, like $10 or so each. I got all mine at Rockauto.com. They're slightly more at the auto parts stores, but not enough to matter. I was buying my struts at Rockauto, so it was just convenient to get the other parts there too.

Noise, I had a horrific clank in the rear I thought were strut mounts but it was just the sway bushings. Its a common thing to look over and many people replace struts b/c the sway bar is clanking around.

I might throw 2 quick struts on the front in the spring, since the ride is really starting to bother me.

I replaced our 2000 Sienna's total front suspension at 135,000.... everything but the spring. and now with 100,000 I'm doing the same thing to our 01 Solara. The front lower control arm bushings just fell apart on both vehicles. And don't buy cheap crap. The ball joints that came with the lower control arm failed after 8 months so I replaced them with Moogs last weekend.
