96 Toyota Camry LE how do i fix my brake light?

The bulb is good but when I use the keyless entry the light works but when I step on the break the light in the dash comes on and the break light doesn't work at all...I bought a socket and looked at the fuses (its good) and I don't understand what's wrong...can someone tell me what I can do to fix this....thank you!

Your brake light switch could be faulty

I would check the tail light module in the trunk. open up the trunk liner on the driver side, you'll find a yellow squareish box, disconnect it from the harness and carefully pry open. There is a part on the circuit board that burns out, If this happened on yours it will be obvious when looking at the board.

This is an easy thing to check and a good place to start IMO. You can pick up a new yellow box at the junk yard for 10 bucks or less if you find the old one faulty.

that happened at my avalon after i got into an accident. turns out the repair shop put in 2057 bulbs (or something weird like that) instead of 1157 bulbs. If you havent already bought new 1157 bulbs, buy them and replace every brake light with new lights first...its a waste for the bulbs that are good but at the same time, thats the easiest fix. It worked for me, so i hope it will work for you!

BTW there's a brake light fuse behind the coin tray on the left side of the steering wheel. Indicated by "stop" on the chart on the back of the tray. Don't need no socket to look at that so i don't know if you checked that allready
