4 Cylinder Oil pump drive shaft: Found source of leak!

Does anyone know if you can buy from the dealer just the drive component within the oil pump? Is it a replaceable item without buying the entire assy?

On my 1998 Camry with the 2.2L, I'm underway with replacing the timing belt, water pump, crank/camshaft seals, etc. and hoping to solve a minor oil leak in the process. I'm following the excellent 2-part "How to change your Timing Belt" write-up posted as sticky in this forum.

I get to the point where I dismantle the oil pump and remove its drive gear so I can replace the oil seal on the shaft. I noticed that the oem seal has worn a groove into the shaft, thus allowing oil to seep past causing my leak.

I'm really hesitant to put a new seal on a worn shaft. If the shaft is unavailable, an alternative route would be to buy a new oil pump assembly from a parts supplier.

Anyone else encounter this issue?

Dealer item...

Found my answer. Looks like the shaft/rotor can be purchased separately from the dealer.

Yes, it's wise to replace the shaft if it's grooved like that. At a dealer over here it's $34+ tax for the set, technically called the drive rotor (shaft w/gear) and driven rotor (round with star hole for gear to rotate in). You're replacing the oil pump o-ring too, right? That's a must.

You mean shaft seal?

I think you mean the seal that fits around the shaft? Either way, yes, I plan to replace the shaft seal and the O-ring (oil pump to engine) seal.

Thanks for the reply!

That's the one, the large spaghetti o-ring that seals the pump to the engine. Just making sure because you didn't mention it.

Yep...

Off to the dealer for the Rotor Set p/n 15102-74020: $34.22.

Glad that's all it is!
