My speedo hasnt been working since i put my new transmission back in my car. I replaced the VSS with a known good unit and i just did the wheel speed sensors (ABS light) yesterday but its Still not working. my Tach and fuel gauge still work. I'm thinking its a minor detail that i'm overlooking. Any suggestions?

If i were you, I'd go get one from the junkyard real quick and see if it all works, mine was bad, i got one from the junkyard and bam now it works, im not sure about the speedo but the tach worked like a charm! :]

The VSS sends 4 pulses per revolution. Double check that you still get those 4 pulses at the sensor and at the gauge.

gauge works. sometimes the speedo needle will raise up to about 20mph for a split second but its usually stuck on 0. i took the two i have apart and i didnt see anything wrong with them. but i'm gonna track down a VSS this week and see what happens.

also check the VSS wiring, any chance it could have gotten damaged while removing the old trans?

if sensor itself and wiring both check out then it's the speedo itself being at fault here?

I'll check over the wiring again but it looks good. I'll have to replace the sensor and go from there. Im not going anywhere near a IC. I don't have cash for that.

yeah, I understand. I would try another VSS too, just make sure it's designed for the trans/diff you have, they can differ a little bit (like number and size of teeth) between models.
as John mentioned, the number of pulses it generates might be different and so it can make the speedo not understand it.
