Hi to you all, i need some help with upgrading the sound. I have a 1994 camry xle v6 and still got stock speakers and the same tape/cd decks. I'm planning on buying a 2 in 1 subwoofer/amp, i want to replace the cd deck , since most after markets decks are 50w x 4 will the stock speakers handle all that power or would i have to change all 4 speakers + tweaters? I kinda find an interesting post on this: Gen 3 Sound System Upgrade. But all the parts he's talking about are discontinued, any advice on an aftermarket audio deck that's compatible with the xle factory speakers, and at the same time that features a preamp output? I ran accross this JVC KW-XR610, will this be good for my current speakers?
if i were you. Id replace ALL the stock paper speakers. because they will blow out, stock paper speakers peak at about 15 watts rms, and a head unit that says 50x4 it actually does about 22 watts rms to each speaker. so yeah they will sound good, until they pop, if you want a screen that JVC looks fine, If you dont mind getting just a regular cd/mp3/aux then i suggest a JVC KDS-16! Its simple and inexpensive and sounds beautiful when you adjust the sound, plus it has a front aux and a cd. i believe you can pick it up at walmart for 60 i believe.
also right now you can go to best buy since they have a pair of pioneer 6x12's (for the front door speakers) on sale for 37.99 !
and for some 6x8's (for the rear (it says 6x9 but my theory is that 6x8's fit more snug) you can just buy some pioneers also some 3 ways are good. you can get those from walmart relatively cheap! you may not need the 2 in 1 sub unless you like to have deep bass! besides what 2 in 1 sub combo are you thinking of?

Hi,
Thanks for the suggestions, i was planning on replacing front speakers but gradually, my driver sides speaker and tweater are blown up so might replace all front speakers when getting the JVC KW-XR610 from ebay, i especialy want this one because its a double din. do you think my 6"9 speakers in the back will survive just a few weeks until i replace them?
yeah im thinking of getting a double din as well..
but yes your 6x9s will definitely hold up for a few months maybe longer if you dont have your music blaring. its just always a great idea to upgrade everything

You're right its better to do everything at the same time but what can i say... im not rockerfeller's granson you know lol. I'll go with ebay for some speakers speakers, since my future JVC specs is max pow out: 50w x 4 and RMS: 20w rms x 4, frequency: 5 to 20,000hz. What specs should i look at when searching for 6 1/2 speakers? because some are 400, 700, 180 watts etc...
I am a big fan of pioneer head units. Especially ones with the auto EQ feature, I recently installed the Pioneer AVH-P3300BT. It was a little spendy but I really like the touch screen and the sounds of the unit. The auto EQ feature lets you attach a microphone and the head unit will play test tones though all the speakers and adjust the audio output based on the acoustics of the car. It made a huge difference in my truck.
To Echo what GR91 said, Bestbuy has all pioneer and Sony speakers on sale this week, 25% off. I bought a pair of 6.5 3-way pioneers for my 99 Camry and installed them in the rear deck this weekend. The difference in sound was great for 45 bucks.
You can definitely wait to change speakers but the sound will be disappointing until you do.
I have found that I do not need a sub if you decent speakers all around. Especially if money is tight, the sub is the last thing I would add.
If you have not looked at Crutchfield.com, that is great site for researching components and it will let you know what fits with an adapter (which you can make yourself) and what requires alteration to fit (not worth the effort.) Lots of good customer reviews etc.
My $.02

If i had the buck i would definetly get pioneer or sony, especially pioneer, their equipment always sounds great. I've check on crutchfield, wal mart and ebay websites. Since im in canada i found that there are better prices on the US websites, i found good speakers with good price on ebay but not sure about the specs ( rms and watts) vs the jvc deck.
And i also went on crutchfield.ca and use their "outfit my car" to get an idea on decks compatible with the car and i searched ebay to find something cheaper with similar specs.
i think the best headunits have to be
Pioneer
JVC
Clarion
Kenwood
Sony
somehow i trust pioneer headunits more than there speakers, just because ive had higher quality speakers than pioneers,
Either way I believe JVC is fine!
In the speaker department
it goes like this:
Infinity
JVC
Pioneer
sony
Kicker
I Based ^^ speaker list on clarity and less bass.kicker has too much bass.
if i could suggest your speakers get a higher Hz level on the front door speakers, and a lower HZ level in the rear deck!
Only because thats how i like my music, with more clarity up front and more bass in the rear.
Winkzoot is right, the sub really isnt necessary UNLESS you want to have that booming feeling/sound. I Love that! With my bass loud! my old setup on my 91 corolla was
kicker 4.25in in the dash panel
sony 3 way 5.25in in rear deck
two 12 kicker CVR's bridged to 1 ohm at ~1000 rms powered by a Hifonics bxi2010d monoblock 1200 watt 1158 true rms,
in a huge hatchback 2 cuft box NON-ported!
MAN everyone used to hate my car cause it was soo bassy and loud (i also had Loud outside "ice cream man" speakers under the headlights) but i loved it and i had alot of switches to control everything. all that was powered on a JVC KDS16 Headunit.
But you dont really need a sub if you upgrade the rear speakers and put sound deadner in your trunk!

I totally agree with your list of the top brands. what you had in your previous car was quite 'boombastic", im looking more for quality over power w/o investing too much, infinity speakers looks fine but it would be best for me to match jvc headunit with jvc speakers. My next question is technical, based on the current JVC KW-XR610 specs:
Frequency Response: 5 - 20,000Hz
Dynamic Range: 96 dB
Signal-to-Noise Ratio: 98dB
Maximum Power Output: 50W x 4
Continuous Power Output (RMS) (CEA-2006 Compliant): 20W RMS x 4CH at 4 ohms and no more than 1.0% THD + N
Load Impedance: 4 ohms (4 - 8 ohms allowable)
What specs from the 6.5 and 6.9 speakers would perfectly match the JVC JVC KW-XR610 headunit. Im note sure about watts and rms matching. And also looking for tweaters.
honestly Im no expert in the numbers cause they all confuse and annoy me.
since you just want a strong sound clearer than stock, get 3 way 6x9's in the back, almost any. JVC's speaker has a 4 way available! and in the front a 2 way JVC speaker and some nice alpine tweeters.
I USED to have a pair of these on my galant, And MANN! they were perfect and beautiful! I also had it on the outside speaker for a while! And i can tell you this thing is built to last! Rain wind dust ice everything! this speaker is the best! I may order a set for my camry! =D
If you take this whole combination with that Head unit you will be set! it will sound very crystal clear and beautful! no need for a sub unless you're like me and like the feeling and extra boom >;]

The pricing is great and most JVCs speakers i was looking at so far were quite expensive. but on amazon a pair of 6.9 for not even $40!!? thats awesome.
And ohh yeah i like some xtra boom as well, when you listen to reggae, house and some hip hop music its mostly all about bass. Im thinking about getting a small powered subwoofer for the trunk like this one" http://www.crutchfield.ca/Sound_Ordn...e_p/777b8p.htm but i'll find it maybe cheaper somwhere else.
The guy that sold me this 94 xle for $500 wont recognize this thiing now!
it had rust on the body, bad front passenger wing, pads, some rotors, callipers, radiator, belt, master cylinder, some tubes... everything affecting the driving was changed and soon a black body paint and sound upgrade.
The engine had only 225000km and since i cleaned the transmission fluid the shifting is so danm smooth. it wasnt a bad idea restoring that car. For an old grandma it goes to 140km/h as if its a joke while my friend's bmw is shaking at 120. 3rd and 4th camry generation are the best! Thanks for all the great suggestions!
Trust me, go to your local craigslist, and search for a 10 inch kicker cvr, and bam, if you can negotiate well, you may be able to get one at $80 ;]
Damn awesome, sounds like youve been very busy with the car!
I too, am restoring a camry that had been sitting around for 3 years! I picked it up for $100 and have put my time into it! ive owned a 91 corolla and based off of how well that car is, i can tell this one is no exception, plus i win with a bigger engine and more space i cant wait till my car is perfect! i will not sell it unless i am forced to or unless i can trade it for a 96 se coupe v6 5speed :P
in any case. i hope you get the sound that you are lookin for! i know i already have my components picked now i just have to get a deal for all of them >:]

idk why, but the 6x9's are NOT a perfect fit,. i recently changed mine and they didnt fit in all the way! i zipp tied mine until i get my dremel, then ill cut the opening a bit more. so you may have to do the same, unless you force them in there really hard!
