Stalling issue. Advice needed.
First off, I am new here, and thank you for all constructive input.
Basically, I am trying to help my aunt solve a persistent stalling issue with her Camry.
She owns a 99 Camry LE with the 4 cylinder. Through multiple shop visits, a number of different parts have been replaced. Let me first explain the problem.
About 3 months ago, the Camry began randomly stalling. It would start right back up, idle and drive normal. At the begging this was happening on a rather infrequent basis, lets say less than once a month. Suddenly it began to occur on a daily basis, almost overnight.
Once this began happening, it would take almost 3-5 tries to get it started. When it finally started, it would rev up to 3k rpm's. Then drop to 400-500, bounce up to 1k, then level off at around 500.
Also, as frequently as this does occur, I can literally drive 100 miles, or drive fine for 2 days at a time without an issue. I have been working on cars of all types, all of my life, always doing my own work. Now I am stumped, the only experience I have is from my own tinkering and replacing parts. Not really a pro in the diagnosis field.
So.. You may ask, what has been replaced?
To date, the following have been replaced
Idle air control valve
fuel pump
mass air flow sensor
crankshaft positioning sensor
Edit: Just remembered, the last mechanic that took a look at it ( family friend, been using him for 15+ years without issue ) said he believes it is purely electrical. Said he sprayed starter fluid into the intake when it would not turn over and still would not start.
Desperate for ideas guys, tired of throwing money at it and "hoping".
Again, thanks for any help.
