Purolator PureOne Oil filter $2.76

The PL10241 is currently $2.76 after rebate.
Amazon Amazon

I'm using this filter in my Camry, and I think several others here do as well.

Looks like Purolator allows a maximum of 4 filters so it's a bit short of the $25 free shipping. I wish they allow something like 6 for example. Sign up for Amazon Prime free trial I guess.

Otherwise Motorcraft FL920S or FL400S at Walmart are also made by Purolator.

Carquest filters are also made by Wix and are very, very cheap. I'd recommend waiting for a sale where you can get a master pack of 12 for around $16.

Hmmm, I know Bosch bought Purolator some years ago so they're pretty much one and the same. Wix should still be a different company. Mobil-1 is made by Champion Labs, but personally I still like PureOne better.

Yep, I think that's right.

Napa's filters are Wix filters.
(and something I just learned, Napa-branded oil is Valvoline)

Yeah, I think their brake fluid is also Valvoline. Good stuff. I do use Wix ATF kits, fuel filters and inline transmission fluid filter as well. But do prefer PureOne type oil filters.

I like the PureOne filters a lot, but have you all noticed their web site specifically says they should only be used for 3,000 mile intervals? From their site:

"Purolator PureONE oil filters should be replaced every 3,000 miles or 3 months depending on the driving conditions - or unless otherwise specified by the vehicle's manufacturer.

http://www.purolatorautofilters.net/...ilfilters.aspx

Does the last half of their instructions mean it's OK to go longer than 3,000 if the manufacturer calls for a longer OCI?

I guess the higher efficiency can mean the filter element begins to plug up and cause the bypass valve to open. The alternative would be something like the Fram filter, which filters 94% instead of 99.9%.

But 3/3000 is good with dinos or syn-blends on these engines. These engines are not designed for extended drain intervals. In TRD95's case a used oil analysis told him to cut his interval down to 2000 miles. Then again he's got 300k+ miles on the engine.

LOL

but seriously, you can always use an oversized filter designed for more flow (or longer time).

e.g.
Oil filters:
a) 5s-fe 2.2L
PureOne standard PL14476 / larger PL14477
WIX standard 51394 / larger 51396
OEM standard 90915-YZZF2 / larger 90915-YZZF1
Mobil1 EP standard M1-103
Bosch Distance Plus standard D3311 / larger D3325

b) 1mz-fe 3.0L
PureOne standard PL10241 / larger PL20195
WIX standard 51348 / larger 51516
OEM standard 90915-YZZD1 / larger 90915-YZZD3 / 90915-20004 (JP)
Mobil1 EP standard M1-102
Bosch Distance Plus standard D3330 / larger ???

but to be honest. I think that above quote from Purolator website is just a safety valve against complains from people running dino oils (3k miles / 3mo OCI is too similar) and probably has nothing to do with actual filter longevity when using blend or fully synthetic oils in an engine which has already been cleaned up (so no sludge chunks are starting to come off and plug the filtering media).

Fen - does the oil light stay on longer on starting on the 5SFE than your 1MZ? The 5SFE often has an oil drainback problem.

The 3SFE used to have a filter similar to the 1MZ's standard filter size. If the oil pump volume is known then the fill rate can be calculated. If the 5S is similar to the 1MZ then the -YZZD3, FL400S, M1-209, PL20195 etc can be used on both engines. Some owners have used it on the 2.4L 2AZ too. But the 2AZ has the filter mounted the correct side up.

nope. it's pretty much same. only initial filter fill up time after oil change is a bit longer when using oversized filters, then at every other startup it's normal and same (if anti-drainback valve is OK).

I'm using now the standard size filters on 5s-fe, PureOne (now), OEM (in past and have a few more of them for future) and Denso (this will be next). car is barely making 2-3k miles in 6 months, but that can change at any time.
