pb blast shift cable

On the last dealer trip, they said my shift cable is rusty and that's why the shift lever is kind of hard to move. They wanted $150 to clean and lube the shift cable. I can see that the cable to transmission bolt is a little rusty.

Is it OK just to pb blast there?

Great. I was just afraid that PB blaster contains some sort of acid or something that will eat away the metal. I've only used it for taking something off and throwing it away .

Any other suggestions for rust prevention after applying the PB blast?

WD40 or silicone spray lube would be safer.
