Tranny fluid drip after swap

Men I did my swap a week ago on my 1mzfe everything work. Fire right up after the swap but then tranny fluid us dripping underneath by the housing connecting to the engine block. Darn it I know how hard to pull the tranny alone so I pulled the engine togeth with the tranny again in 1 piece, so I can remove the tranny. But yah when I get it out, took the TORQUE CONVERTER out the front seal of the tranny is OK...no cut or anything...any ideas?

Front seal may look OK but I bet you should have replaced it.

+1

Mine "looked ok" at a glance, but upon further inspection, the "spring-band" in the seal, that "clamps" the rubber onto the torque convertor shaft, had come out of it's little groove.

Shouldve re done the rear main seal
you can tell if its oil or tranny fluid by the color of the fluid! red/pink for tranny,
brown/or whatever clean oil is described is obviously oil

Take your time and pull the shaft seal like a cam/crank seal. Or look up an ATRA transmission rebuilders association member shop and just show up at their door with the pump body. Usually things like this (bushings, stuck nuts and bolts etc) many shops will do for a small tip. I wouldn't go to that shop wanting to replace the entire pump instead of a seal.

There is an o-ring sealing the pump to the case that needs to be replaced if you pull the pump.

Also, check to see if you have a Transtar Industries transmission parts warehouse nearby. You may be able to pick up that pump body o-ring plus other parts (strainer, gasket etc) cheap.

Happened to me too

I just had another used trans( 100,000 miles on it)put into my 94 Camry V6 and had the same thing happen. By the next day the front seal is apparently leaking. I don't know what causes the seal to be good one day and leak the next day but its expensive having someone pull it back out and do it again. Labor cost here is 800.00 plus a front end alignment because you drop the front frame member. I am waiting to have it fixed again. The guy who put the used trans in swears he changed out the torque converter seal but he couldn't have unless he screwed it up.

Actually doing that way to pull the tranny is harder...i pulled my engine and tranny for 3 hours together. Its way easier that way....2 trans axle out....3 mount....upper part of intake manifold....the collecter of exhaust that's it...

Now they're both out am thinking to pull the PUMP BODY of the tranny and get the front seal replace by transmission shop. I learned this as a lesson. Actually I pulled the engine twice already. First initially is my engine swap now my tranny front seal. It sucks but it has to be done.
