Shift Lever Maintenance?

Hi,

My Shift Cable broke and I have it removed. Before I put a new one on, do I need to do any maintenance on the shift lever? I can move it by hand / it's not frozen. I'm just wondering if the shift cable broke because it was old or because it was too hard to move the shift lever? Do I need to remove anything and add any lube?

Thanks in advance! This forum has been great!

Nope. Just replace the cable.

It probably broke because it was old and brittle, and stretched to the point of breaking.

Have fun!
