Talking Finally Autocrossed the 95

Well I finally autocrossed my 95 Camry, after owning and slowing modifying the car for over 6.5 years. It was at BeaveRun yesterday and was a test and tune session, not an actual competition. I got in maybe 12 to 15 runs over 5.5 hours.

Anyway, the results were:
45 seconds = Lotus Elise, Lotus Exige, 1990 Corvette (this guy was GOOD)
mid 49 seconds = BMW M3, WRX
49.816 seconds = ME!
52 seconds = new Camaro
55 seconds = Z06 with guy that can't drive

So remember fellow Gen 3ers, if anyone with a Camaro ever tells you that modifying a Camry isn't worth it, just take them to the autocross track

Sorry, I don't have any dash vids.

What I've done to the car:
-B&G Springs
-KYB GR-2 struts (and new strut mounts)
-TRD rear anti-sway bar (with poly bushings)
-SPW aluminum front strut bar
-Hyundai Tiburon 17x7" wheels (with hub-centric rings) wrapped in 215/45R17 Toyo Extensa HP tires
-Custom short ram intake w/ K&N filter (doesn't add much power, but sounds awesome)
-Custom cat back exhuast with Thrush Turbo muffler (again no power, but sounds nice)
-SuperPro polyurethane dog-bone motor mount
-TechnaFit braided stainless brake hoses with DOT 4 synthetic fluid and Bendix CT3 ceramic pads

The biggest thing I did though was I learned my car. I know how hard I can brake before the tires break loose. I know how tight I can take turns at certain speeds. I know how much throttle I can give her coming out of a turn before it understeers too much. As I saw yesterday, you can have an amazing car like a Corvette Z06 and get raped by a 16 year old Camry because you don't know how to drive the car.

I should add that they guy with the Z06 was a really cool guy. I mean no disrespect to him, he just didn't know how to handle his car.

Congrats man. That is a very good time you got and you got no major mods under the hood. come to show that power isn't everything but how you know your car and you got that down. i bet the guy with the new camaro was embarrass knowing a camry beat him.

Thanks guys.
I think I could have gotten a better time, and maybe beaten the M3 and WRX if I had better tires. Those Toyo Extensa HPs are good, but they aren't the best I've ever had. Before these I had Nankang NS1s. They were cheap tires but had really soft rubber. I could slam on my brakes and still not slide with those things. Oh well, at least the Toyos can drive in the snow.
