Yeah, they're a beotch to remove without breaking, especially when you're not sure what you're doing. It gets easier with practice.
It snaps onto the top and bottom of the handle's pivot shaft. So you've gotta pry the top upward, and the bottom downward, both at the same time. Then the back-end will lift out, and your can slide it rearwards. I usually apply a little pressure lifting the back end outwards whilst I'm trying to get the top/bottom to disengage. The front end just hooks under a metal clip; no snap-in retention goin' on there.
