old-timer back bought my mom a 95 camry coupe, need help with ignition

hi troops, its been a while since i sold my 92 camry le and got my es300.heres my problem,i recently bought my mom a 1995 white camry le coupe.the perfect car for her to get around in.good running car.the only problem is when i put the key in the ignition it wont turn to start.it took a few times when i test drove it but it turned and started the car.so i know these are the keys for the carnow someone told me it could be a simple ignition switch.but also the keys that came with the car are really worn down alot.i tried using the keys to open the trunk and the door locks and they wont even do that.so im thinking it could possibly just be that the keys are shot.any and all help here is much appreciated thank you

The ignition switch may have already been replaced and that's why your present key won't open the trunk or doors as you require two keys.

You can get a brand new key from the dealer, just take the car there and he'll match the VIN to a new cut key. If that won't work in the ignition switch then you may need to replace the switch with it's own key.

If it takes a few tires then it sounds like your ignition switch is on the way out.

Then try having a new one made at the dealer to make sure the key is just not worn.

If it's not the right key then it wouldn't turn the ignition at all, as in you wouldn't be able to move it past the "OFF" position. You may have a key that was cut impoperly on one side, so from time to time it wouldn't turn the ignition. My old Camry had the same issue. Just had to swap keys.

But if it turns the ignition every time and just won't start the car every now and then it's your ignition switch on the way out.
