Fitting a 2.5" muffler to 1.7" pipe??

I have a 98 camry with 1mzfe. I got a muffler the other day, but the inlet on it is 2.5"
My problem is that the exhaust pipe on my camry is 1.7" or 1.75"
Im not sure if it is the stock piping or not, because it seems really small.

So, i was wondering, how would i get the new muffler which has a 2.5"
inlet to fit on my 1.7"(or 1.75") exhaust piping?

Thanks

the stock piping is 2.5"i believe. your piping is waaaaay too small. replace the entire exhaust system from the manifold back if this is the case.

Uuugh. I hoped that this wasn't the case. Why would someone put such small pipes on it?? It might just be from the cat and back because the exhaust manifold looks like it's stock.

Stock diameter is 2" but your gonna need to get it welded on at an exhaust shop. There is no good way to clamp the exhaust together.

First of all ya gotta make sure your materials are similar. Second youll need reducers. As long as it is a steel to steel it should be pretty easy. you have to start by making some tac welds to get it in place. Then just go from there. Personally just weldin on a muffler is more work than its worth unless u know what your doin. Shops dont chaege much and they can get it right the first time.

Your biggest problem will be burn through on thin wall pipe. You'll need to stitch weld it to avoid too much heat melting the pipe. Take your time and use smallest wire you can get to reduce amp/heat output. You'll also need to remove the exhaust pipes to get access all around the pipe and to avoid welding overhead.

Okay, guys, i just went to the local muffler shop today. They cut off the existing muffler and also about 2 feet of piping attached to it.

then they just welded larger piping and the new muffler on it. It cost me 45 bucks, but it's well worth it. The new one sounds deep, but not like a fart can.

Ahah i was so happy. I'll post pics of it soon
