Japan yet another ticket for my exhaust!

hi guys so i got a ticket a few days ago for my exhaust being "too loud" which i think is crap but where i live they love pulling me over just based on how my car sounds and looks. i have a 92 3vzfe. the muffler i have now is a "fart can" but i am thinking of changing that to avoid more future tickets which i know are inevitable.

i was wondering your opinion on mufflers that sound nice that will be sum wat quiet at low RPMs but will get louder at higher end RPMs. the one i have now makes this kinda raspy spitting sound at around 3500 RPMs, is there any that do that but quieter? ive seen some of you guys have magnaflows but not really sure about them yet and i haven't heard/found any sound clips of V6s with them on. or if theres other ones you guys really like or recommend.

sorry for the drawn out descriptions
thanx,
Slaz

ricey mufflers release anger in people, no wonders you are getting tickets for that, especially in a quiet neighborhood.

you may want to replace the muffler with something closer to OEM noise levels, not sure if Magnaflow is the right choice (it's still kinda loud I think).

i'd shoot for an oem style single tip megan racing or dual type, you may not want to go over 2.5 inch outlet. in MY opinion

Police still have time to pull people over for "fart cans?" I thought all of that stopped around 2003...back when I graduated high school. Yeah, fart cans never pleases the public, let alone fellow drivers. If you want an exhaust, I'd say go all out and go legit.

i'll chime in on this seeing as i'm a police officer. the loud exhaust tickets where i work are few and far between. if i issue a citation for a loud exhaust, its usually due to a warning being issued and 30 days passing and the person not fixing the exhaust. if the exhaust is rattle my windows loud, then i issue a citation because thats just plain neglegance on the owner. in ohio we have a law that states that you may not modify the exhaust of your vehicle so that the noise levels from the exhuast are increased or modified to be louder than originally designed and sold. this is an misdemeanor of the third degree. heftier fine than a loud exhaust citation which is a minor misdemeanor with a maximium fine of $150.

its really not a waste of time to pull someone over for a loud exhaust as we make a lot of drug arrests, drunk driving arrests and arrest people with active warrants. its a good stop, even if you don't issue a citation.

Yea the cops over hear go by the rule and i quote "if it catches my attention it's too loud and probably illegal" he said that to me about 3 times in a row while i was trying to ask him if there was a specific decibel level that was too loud but that didn't go over to well. And id understand if it was a small quiet town with hardly any modded cars but it's des plaines right outside of chicago an surprisingly theres a fair amount of ricers but they pick and choose who to pull over (mainly older civics n integral and me) lol

But i still want sumthing with a deep sound but quiet as well kinda like the trd edition TC

seriously, do some people actually think that stupidly loud stereos and exhaust in $500 civics that are half-primered and look like sh*t is cool?

i just don't get it. must be a teenage gangster thing.

Just saying, on my project car, this exhaust setup was the first thing to go for a reason:

What it looks like with a magnaflow (has since been painted black):

I have a Magnaflow on my Gen 5 V6, it is a full Magnaflow exhaust, cat, muffler, and deleted res.

If you want a drive by video let me know. I love Magnaflow's sound, i am more than likely putting one on my Legacy GT in the Spring as well.

If ya just want a muffler then magnaflow is a good way to go. If ya want that same coffiecan look then look into apexi or greddy evo. Thos both get louder as the rpMs rise. But the real problem is that the 3vz and 1mz both are loudest in the mid range.

Get out of Crook County and move away from Chicago. Go to a state where they don't give a crap (Indiana)

does anybody have a video on how the Magnaflow muffler (not the full exhaust system) sounds at full range of RPM? 4cyl or 6cyl engine.

thanks! I like the sounds of that Magnaflow, really

Hey as much as I like lowered cars, I cannot have one around here (Winter and snow are not only problems) ... you wouldn't like the idea of driving a a heavily dropped car around my place either
