4th Generation Anyone successfully remove the rear window defogger lines?

One of the previous 4 owners removed the tint from the rear window and have mangled the defroster/defogger lines way beyond simple repair. Because a new rear window is super-expensive, I'm considering removing the lines and using a replacement kit to reapply (http://www.frostfighter.com/prt26STK.htm). However, it says some windows don't come completely clean, making repair a problem.

Has anyone had to remove their grid and been successful, or do I need to start saving up for a complete replacement window?

I'd probably just save up for another window complete with lines in tact. Maybe get one from a junkyard?
