3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Thinking about putting in remote start for my Camry, installation doesn't seem too bad. I hate the range on the original key fob + warming up without going outside is a plus lol.
I already have the factory alarm, so I want something that doesn't affect or mess with that.
I've seen previous threads but they seem to suggest ones with alarms or previous/outdated models.
As far as this go, what are some good models that doesn't cost an arm or a leg? And I believe I'll need the bypass, any good brands for that? Reviews on Amazon are funny, they whine that the thing includes no instructions...
are you sure you have alarm from the factory ? does the siren go off when you enter the car without turning off the alarm or does the siren chirp when you shock the body ?
Pretty sure it's factory. It chirps when I press unlock/lock button. It has the red toyota light and everything.
Do you think the Python (which you said is owned by Viper and all I hear is good things) I linked would be alright? Anything better or cheaper that's just as good?
The factory alarm is not something I'd want to depend on. I have a DEI (Viper) System on my truck. Priced right and rock solid reliable if installed right.
Honestly I could care less for an alarm as I'm never really in that kind of a situation. As long as my doors are locked and I'm not in some kind of bad area for too long, I'd be okay. Just looking for a better keyless entry range and remote start.
So far I'm liking the python I linked, can't seem to find anything else around that price range that seems nicer.
It apparently comes with trunk release...It's not possible because our trunk release is a non-electrical cable, right? Oh well.
I have the Viper 5701 kit on my camry its a remote start plus security all in one...great kit...i got the kit brand new off ebay for $200...and i had my local shop put it in. Works great...python is also a good one
here is the link to the seller i bought it from. This is his ad on ebay for the new ones he sells.
i really hate to steal your thread but im going to ask a question if you dont mind
an aftermarket alarm system has the remote door lock/unlock feature. in order to use this feature, must you have the factory remote lock/unlock module ? if not, then im assuming they come with their own remote door lock/unlock module which you must install even if you already have the factory one right ? so wouldn't that bother you now that you have two remote lock/unlock modules and two sets (factory and aftermarket) of remotes that can remote unlock your doors ? because if the aftermarket alarm was enabled and you used the factory remote to unlock the doors, then the alarm will go off lol.....

Aftermarket alarms with door lock/unlock, don't have a seperate module just for door lock/unlock. Most of the stuff is in one box (brain).
The alarm (brain) has what it needs to do door unlock/lock. Brain supplies either a positive or negative trigger (Toyotas use negative trigger) to the vehicle to unlock/lock the doors.
For vehicles without power door locks, motors needs to be installed in the doors along with relays for the unlock/lock feature to work.
I'm going to say that the factory remote lock/unlock module is not needed if its just a simple lock/unlock module. After all not all cars have factory remote door lock/unlock.

LCD screen displays interior temperature? Seems to be pretty neat. Viper has something similar but costs about $80 more.
The bypass is really only if you have an electronic key. So i don't think you are going to need a bypass. Now for the trunk release you will need to purchase the extra solenoid to pop the trunk with this kit. Also i realized that the viper kits do not come with a motion sensor (whether this kit on ebay or directly from viper) so I had to purchase that, but it isn't required, just something extra.
