Toyota Dealer wanted to replace my front struts today!
So I always take my 1993 Trusty 3VZFE V6 Camry LE to the local Toyota Dealership for their oil change specials & they always look underneath the car & give her a good safety check. Today they told me that my front struts were gone, ie. leaking, & missing rubber boots & heavily rusted. They told me that they could replace them for $968.00, & that I needed a new air filter. On my way home I stopped at Walmart & got a Fram Air Filter for $13.56, & popped it in, & found on E-Bay Brand new Monroe Quick Strut whole front strut assembly replacements for $274.00 shipped to my door. I will just pay my local mechanic for installation labor! I think I saved myself a ton of cash!........Car has 145K miles on it....... Oh yes. I have free lifetime alignment at Firestone so after the struts are installed the alignment is for free!

I put 4 monroe quick struts on my 98 camry at 170,000. Now at 245,000 and they are holding up well. drives great. 75,000 miles later, no sagging springs and no issues thus far.
Care to ready MY experience with Monroe Quik Struts?

They don't call them stealerships for nothing. I don't mind a company making a profit, but they don't have to rape the customers. They could have offered up some aftermarket strut replacements in a 93 model vehicle... SHEEZ

...dealerships want to make as much money off of a customer as they can, so the customer does not go to the competition, that's why they checked out the OP car.
I would personally go with original equipment like KYB or Tokico. KYB can e had on rock auto for just around the same price for all 4. I have heard good and bad from Monroe mostly bad.
Just priced four replacement struts assemblies on Rockauto. KYB GR-2/Excel G OEM replacment struts are 286 shipped. Give or take on shipping depending on location. Shipping is cheaper if shipped to a business address.

That sentence makes exactly zero sense. If they didn't want the OP to go somewhere else, they would make their quotes competitive.
^i tend to agree with that statement, lol. why would a dealership bend a customer over without so much as a kiss and expect them to come back for seconds?

True, but while he/she is at the shop, might as well see how much they can make off the person. since they don't know if/when the person would come back to the shop again.
The Toyota dealers I have seen have ALWAYS screwed everybody. The mechanics work on parts commission so you never get a fair shake. Then the service writer gets a cut of THAT deal too! I would NEVER go back to any Toyota dealer ever.

100% true, I got screwed multiple times by 2 dealers in my city. They always use scare tactics and most of the time an knowledgeable customer almost always fall prey to their tactics. One of my friends works at a toyota dealer and he said the dealership makes the most money on repair/maintenance work, so it is no wonder they all try to squeeze out as much as from the customer. bastards...I never saw a dealer review were at least multiple people got screwed on repair or maintenance...There is absolutely no ethics with these morons.
