4th Generation 2000 camry front windshield replacement

i need to replace my windshield, just wondering if anyone has done it themselves. i have the haynes manual but it just refers to letting the "pros" do it. I've done windshields before and have helping hands that are knowledgeable with cars. just want to know whats underneath the glass so that if i start cutting id know if there is anything to look out for and what type of adhesive sealant is used. also the car has some rust spot on the roof that is right on top of the glass, could that be an issue too? i am a diy'er and would like to avoid going to a shop, but if there is no other way i am located in minnesota minneapolis. no full coverage insurance so if someone in the area can recommend a reputable shop that does not charge an arm and leg, would be helpful too. thanks

before replacing it, you need a Clip kit for the window. You will also need an electric Caulking gun and some strong epoxy.

It only cost about $180.00 to have the pros do it.. most of the time its covered under insurance too.

Call up your local PPG (now PWG - Pittsburgh Windshield Glass) shop. They use special urethane adhesive that has a tensile strength of 1200 PSI and need to make sure the glass is clean or it won't stick. Let the pros handle it.

If you use Safelite get them to quote you OEM PPG/PWG or other OEM glass like United or Asahi. Don't touch the XYG brand they like to use.

But most insurance should cover it without deductibles.

110%. There is no way a backyard mechanic can install a windshield properly on a modern car. PGW autoglass is really good BTW, it is not wavy or distorted at sharp angles like many aftermarket (and some factory) windshields.

For something important as the windshield, I rather have the pros handle it instead of trying to do it yourself, no matter how much knowledge you gather and claim to have. It's something that I rather have the pros do since it's your own life you're talking about here.

last time I needed new front glass on wife's car I called around local glass companies and found those working with PPG (PWG now). it cost me $250 to get it installed by a pro and looks perfect!

Mind that Solara windshields and mouldings are different, so I think the same thing for camry is actually cheaper (~$200?) as far as I remember.
