labor costs?

I was told by a master mechanic who was a Toyota mechanic at one time, that to remove an auto trans from a v6 Camry and replace the torque converter seal and put the trans back in was a 6 to 6.5 hour job. If you had this done what did the labor cost you?

I think at most places its more like 6-8hrs total. Typically takes about 3-4hrs to remove the engine. 20 minutes to replace the seal, then 3-4Hr back in the car.

Just call around and ask how much its going to cost at local shops. Around my area, some shops charge $35-$50.00 per hr. At the dealers its more like $100-$120.00/hr

sounds like your mechanic is about spot on. are you having the rear main seal replaced?

I had the rear main oil seal replaced a while back, cost me $500.00. I had the trans replaced once and the labor was $520.00. I had to have the trans pulled again to replace the torque converter seal and they charged me $860.00 in labor, $37.00 for the seal. I thought that was too high, it was NOT a dealer. This was a different garage than the other times.
