no backup lights?mechanic said neutral safety switch/backup light switch,help

ok heres yet another problems with my moms new 95 camry coupe.she was going for inspection and everything was fine until the backup lights were checked.i was told they dont turn on.the mechanic said its a neutral safety switch and its a $249 part plus labor.i still have to check the fuses and the electrical connector.now my question is does anyone know how to remove this switch from an automatic transmission?is it difficult to do?i have junkyard near me i can go and try to get the part myself.id like to try to save my mom a few dollars.any help is more than appreciated thank you

There are two 10mm bolts on the NSS, you can try to loosen them and adjust the NSS slightly left or right and have a helper sit in the cabin of the car with it in reverse and see if the Block lights up [R]. That is if the bulb is good. lol

Just keep in mind, if adjusting .. make sure the car still starts up in Park. If it doesn't, adjust it until it does.

If you still cant get it, I would suggest to clean the NSS.

and also everyone i didnt notice,my gears in the center of cluster dont light up,when shifted out of park.im guessing this may have something to do with the nss.
