Rear deck speaker problem

1996 camry 4 door. I want to replace the stock 6x9 speakers in the rear deck. The odd thing is I bought 6x9 to go in but they don't fit the hole properly. What modifications do I have to make to get these things mounted? Mike

I ran into the same thing when I installed new 6 x 9s in my car. I used zip ties to hold them down (looped through screw hole) and on the opening I used some electrical tape to keep the speaker from moving around. By no means the best way to do it, but it works for now. Personally I would recommend buying these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/310351571112

I think I will just get the Dremmel tool out and cut the speaker holes out a little bigger. Then I can put any 6X9 speaker in there I want and screw them down properly.

? they fit fine.

get some 1/4" mdf wood and make a bracket.
the outside perimeter of the bracket needs to be in the shape of the stock speaker's outside perimeter. the speakers should've came with a template which you will need to cut out the big hole of your bracket. (you need to actually cut out the hole of the bracket first before you cut the bracket off the wood if that makes sense)

drill out 3 holes on the bracket so it can be into the car and screw the speakers onto the mdf wood bracket then bolt it into the car

...in the end u'll end up with the 'spacers' from the ebay item above... except u made it urself...

Got my Dremel tool out and made relief cuts all around the speaker openings. Set the speakers in the hole and pushed down on them until they sat flush with the rear deck. Made sure the trunk rod doesn't rub the speaker. Mark the holes, remove speakers, drill pilot hole, reset speakers and screw them down."Thats why Crutchfield doesnt sell 6X9s for our cars". The fact is that stock speakers are made into the speaker bracket to fit the rear deck. So aftermarket speakers and speaker brackets usually dont fit. This worked for me and will work for you. Mike
